The Stone by Lloyd Alexander
Story Map
Main character: Maibon
What the character wants: to be forever young with the help of a magic stone.
What happens:
Event 1:  Maibon didn’t get older any more.
Event 2: The hen’s eggs didn’t hatch.
Event 3: His wife tells Maibon to get rid of the stone.
Event 4: The stone doesn’t disappear easily.
Event 5: Maibon meets again the dwarf and tells him to break the spell because he wants to grow old and old. 
Moral lesson: One has to think of the consequences of our wishes so that others do not suffer because of our greed. Hiss greed of eternal youth took over his family.

They started to have problems in the farm.
“There’s enough trouble in the chicken roost. Those eggs should have hatched by now”
Some days went by and still the eggs had not hatched.
The cow had not calved. The wheat had not sprouted. And
now Maibon saw that his  apple tree showed no sign of even the smallest, greenest fruit.

He was unable to get rid of the stone.
His wife blamed the stone. She told Maibon to get rid of
it. Maibon replied, “The season’s slow, that’s all.” His wife
kept at him. Finally, Maibon threw the stone out the window.
The next morning, though, he found the stone sitting on
the window sill.
